An impressive necklace made of 15 gold nuggets of circa 22 carat gold, the intermediate links are in 14 carat gold. The largest piece measures 4 x 3 cm and contains trace elements such as ironstone and hematite, probably Australian, 19th century.
A gold nugget is a naturally occurring piece of native gold. They are often formed in streams and rivers where small particles of gold are welded together by the pressure of the water.
